Since a couple of years back, SEB has established a relation with the Norwegian coastguard (Kystvakten in Norwegian) and the shipping operator Remøy Management. In 2009, SEB provided financing of two new climate-friendly vessels for the Norwegian coastguard. 

The new vessels run on natural gas instead of traditional diesel oil, making them the world’s greenest coast guard ships.

The multi-purpose vessels will be used for fishery inspections, oil spill prevention, search-and-rescue operations and as a tugboats to assist larger boats.

They are hybrids ships, running only on gas the majority of the time. This reduces its nitrous oxides, NOx emissions by 90 per cent and its carbon dioxide, co2 emissions by 25 per cent.
